Declaration on Web Accessibility

Declaration on Web Accessibility for DATATHEK

The Austrian Academy of Sciences is committed to making its website DATATHEK - datathek.oeaw.ac.at - accessible in accordance with the Federal Act on Barrier-free Access to Federal Websites and Mobile Applications (Web Accessibility Act WZG) BGBl. I. No. 59/2019 as amended from time to time. Work on evaluating and implementing accessibility improvements is ongoing. DATATHEK is based on the German software RADAR, commissioned by FIZ Karlsruhe.

For the software system in use - RADAR - a declaration of accessibility is published by FIZ Karlsruhe which reads as follows:

The legal basis is the German Act on Equal Opportunities for the Disabled (BGG) and the Barrier-free Information Technology Ordinance (BITV 2.0) as amended from time to time.

Status of compliance with the requirements

The largest part of the RADAR web application is compliant with BITV 2.0 due to the points mentioned below. The BITV test was carried out as a self-assessment (92 test steps); most of the test steps have been fulfilled.

  • Alternative texts for graphics and graphical control elements will be added one after the other.
  • Keyboard operability is ensured
  • The keyboard focus is clearly visible throughout
  • Text can be enlarged, except for special features such as displayed menus.
  • The page layout was structured more clearly.

We continue to work on further improvements, for example, to

  • define headings and paragraphs consistently
  • further improve the navigation structure

Drafting of this declaration on accessibility

This declaration was drafted on July 20, 2021 based on the BITV / WCAG self-assessment (www.bitvtest.eu). The following pages were examined during the self-assessment:

  • list of data publications or search results
  • landing page of a data publication
  • login and registration pages
  • form pages for creating data packages, metadata annotation, and editing workspaces

Declaration updated on 9th of December, 2021.
